GANDHINAGAR - The Gujarat High Court Monday rejected the bail plea of Rajkumar Pandian, a policeman accused of involvement in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case.

Justice M.R. Shah rejected Pandian’s plea. The policeman wanted bail on the grounds that co-accused and former state minister Amit Shah was given bail earlier.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed Pandian’s bail plea.

CBI counsel K.T.S. Tulsi said that Pandian was threatening witnesses even from the prison.

The CBI also contended that he was one of the prime accused and was involved in conspiracy behind the killing of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausarbi.

Pandian’s counsel S.B. Vakil contended that the circumstances had changed since the court first rejected his bail application and the bail should be granted on grounds of parity with Shah.

Sheikh was gunned down Nov 26, 2005, and his wife, missing without a trace since then, is believed to have died under mysterious circumstances a few days later.
