RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh’s industrial town Bhilai was tense Monday after the body of an abducted 10-year-old schoolboy was found almost six days after he was reported missing, police said. His neighbour has been arrested.

Satyajit Singh was abducted Jan 5 while returning home from school.

His body was found in a gutter in Sector-5 area, sparking protests by people who accused police of laxity in the case.

Police swung into action after the protest and arrested Ajay Kumar, 20, a neighbour of the boy. Police claimed he had confessed to the crime.

“The murderer who was known to the victim’s family, was arrested. He demanded Rs.1 lakh as ransom but his plan went wrong and he killed the boy,” U.B.S. Chauhan, city superintendent of police, told IANS from Bhilai, some 30 km from the state capital Raipur.
