LUCKNOW - A man working for an inter-state arms and ammunition racket was arrested with five country-made pistols in Uttar Pradeshs Bareilly, police said Saturday.

Guchchan Khan, aged around 45 years, was nabbed Friday from the cantonment area following a joint operation by the special operations group (SOG) and the district police.

According to police, Khan used to supply firearms to his clients in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and western regions of Uttar Pradesh.

“Though Khan claimed that he manufactured the firearms at his native place in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, preliminary investigations revealed that he worked for an organised arms manufacturing and smuggling racket with its members in various states,” inspector Pushkar Singh told reporters Saturday in Bareilly, some 250 km from here.

“Investigations are on to nab Khan’s accomplices from others parts of the state,” he said.

Khan was into the trade for over last seven years, police said.
