Police officer commits suicide in Delhi

NEW DELHI - A sub inspector of Delhi Police Thursday shot himself with his service revolver at Vijay Chowk, in front of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the heart of the national capital, police said.

Ajit Singh, a sub inspector in Delhi Police’s security wing responsible for security of parliamentarians, Thursday shot himself with his service revolver at his E Block Army office post near Vijay Chowk at 8.30 a.m.

Police officials told IANS that he was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he died during treatment.

“We will definitely look into the matter and will see why it happened so,” said Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta.

“No suicide note has been found from the body. He was depressed with his family and his job,” an official said. Singh, a resident of Vishnu Garden in Tilak Nagar area, was about to retire this December.

Singh, who haild from Punjab, was is survived by his wife and four children.
