100-vehicle pile-up in China leaves seven dead

BEIJING - More than 100 vehicles rammed into the back of each other in a foggy Monday morning on an expressway in China, killing seven people and injuring 15.

Over 100 vehicles crashed in the chain of collisions in southwest Gizhou province, leaving seven people dead, Xinhua reported quoting local officials.

The pile-up began when a truck crashed into a petrol station in Zunyi County at about 8 a.m.

At around 10 a.m., visibility on the expressway was less than 50 meters due to fog. Traffic banked up to about 20 km after the accident.

In a separate incident, nine school children were killed and 10 injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling plunged into a creek in central China’s Hunan province. The accident occurred at 7.30 a.m. in Hengnan County, said an official.
