Woman raped by friend made on internet

NEW DELHI - A 25-year-old divorced woman was raped and blackmailed by a man who had befriended her on the internet, police said Sunday. The man has been arrested along with his accomplice.

According to police, the woman, a stock broker, was drugged and sexually assaulted Dec 13 in the Hauz Khas area of south Delhi.

She was also blackmailed by the accused who had taken her photographs and made a video (during the rape), said a police officer.

The two accused were identified as Shanu Dhingra and Sumit, both in their 20s. They were arrested from Haryana’s Panipat city. The victim knew Dhingra since the last three months.

On Dec 13, Dhingra asked her to come and collect her photos, which she had sent to him during online chatting, from Kashmere Gate Metro station. He then took her to a house in Green Park and from there to a house where Sumit was present.

The two offered her cold drinks laced with sedatives, raped her and filmed the act, the officer said.

On Dec 14, Dhingra dropped her at the Kashmere Gate Metro Station and threatened to make the video public if she approached police.

Dhingra also asked her to pay Rs.1.6 lakh which she did in two instalments, the officer said.

The victim, however, picked up courage and complained to the police.
