Over 900 kg poppy husk recovered in Punjab

CHANDIGARH - In two different seizures, police have recovered over 900 kg of poppy husk from Punjab’s Patiala district and arrested two people, an official said here Friday.
According to a Punjab Police official, acting on secret tip-offs, they laid a trap and recovered the contraband late Thursday.
“We intercepted a motorcycle in Patiala town and arrested two people. They were carrying 460 kg poppy husk and 300 gram opium,” a police official told IANS.
“In another incident, we have recovered 450 kg poppy husk from Patran town late Thursday night. However, the accused managed to escape by taking the advantage of darkness,” he added.
Patiala is around 60 km from Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Police also arrested two people late Thursday and recovered 20 km poppy husk from them.
“The accused were travelling in a Punjab Roadways bus and were coming from Jaipur. They are residents of Hoshiarpur town in Punjab. We have registered a case and started our investigation,” a police official said.
