LONDON - Acid is to be poured into a man’s eye in Iran for blinding his lover’s husband, it was reported here.
The man, Mojtaba, hurled acid in the face of his rival, Alireza, a taxi driver, after an illicit affair with the victim’s wife, Mojdeh, the Daily Mail reported.
They are residents of Qom, a city 60 miles south of the capital, Tehran.
A lower court passed the penalty that was upheld by Iran’s supreme court.
Qom prosecutor Mostafa Barzegar Ganji said the victim had used his right to `qisas’.
Iran’s Islamic code permits “an eye-for-an-eye, a tooth-for-a-tooth” retribution - known as ‘qisas’.
“We have asked for forensic specialists to oversee the blinding of the convict,” he was quoted as saying.
In February last year, a university student in Iran was sentenced to be blinded in both eyes for throwing acid in the face of a female classmate, who had rejected his proposal of marriage.
