RAIPUR - Three legislators of Chhattisgarh’s opposition Congress party were arrested Sunday evening in Surguja district for leading a demonstration against the allegedly deteriorating law and order situation in the state, police said.

T.S. Singhdeo, Premsai Singh and Ramdev Ram were arrested along with 250 supporters at Ambikapur town when they refused to stop demonstrating on a road on which Chief Minister Raman Singh was scheduled to travel, officials here at police headquarters told IANS.

The Congress legislators had formed a human chain on the road over a series of alleged kidnappings and killings of minors and police failure to track down the accused.

A minor boy of Ambikapur was kidnapped and found beheaded last month.

The Congress that has a strength of 39 legislators in the 90-member state assembly stalled the house during the winter session that ended Dec 9 over the alleged collapse of law and order in the state.

During the protests, 36 protesting legislators were suspended by the speaker Dec 7.
