KABUL - All 18 deminers who were abducted in Afghanistan’s Khost province have been rescued a day after their kidnapping, a top official has said.

Afghan security forces with the support of NATO-led troops rescued the deminers Friday, provincial police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai said.

All the abducted people were safe, Ishaqzai told Xinhua.

He, however, said a truck used by the deminers is still in possession of the yet to be identified abductors.
