NEW DELHI - In the wake of the gangrape of a BPO employee from Mizoram here, MPs from northeast will meet Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday to discuss the safety of women from the region in the city.
Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the Northeast Support Centre and Helpline, told IANS: “We are grateful to Delhi Police for the prompt action in the gangrape case and in nabbing all the accused.
“The focus should now be on preventive action so that such crimes don’t take place at all,” Chandra added.
On Nov 24, a 30-year-old BPO staffer was abducted by five men and raped in a moving vehicle.
Two accused - Shamsad and Usman - were arrested last week from Mewat in Haryana while a third accused, Shahid, surrendered to police in Faridabad in connection with another case and was later found to be involved in the Delhi rape, according to the police.
A fourth accused - Iqbal alias Bada Billi - was arrested from Haryana late Saturday. The fifth accused, Kamru, was caught in Sohna Haryana Monday night.
