Man takes fire truck for joyride in Australia

SYDNEY - A man in Australia allegedly stole a fire truck and took it for a joy ride. Having enjoyed his time driving the truck around for a long time, he dumped it 100 km later.
According to police, the man, 30, broke into the Lake Charm CFA station about 1.30 a.m., in northern Victoria, and stole the truck. Thereafter, he took it to small countrytown Murrabit, Koondrook, a town situated on the Murray river, and the outskirts of Kerang, a rural town on the Loddon river in northern Victoria.
He dumped it beside the Murray Valley Highway in Kerang East, the Herald Sun reported Wednesday.
The $150,000 truck was not believed to have been damaged.
Acting Inspector Jamie Templeton, of Swan Hill police, branded the man’s behaviour as “totally unacceptable”.
“I think its disappointing,” Templeton stated.
Police in the area started looking for the truck after learning that it had been stolen. It was first spotted by a truck driver who became suspicious.
Its alleged that the joyrider tried to hitch a lift with a passing truck, but the driver rang police. He walked into Kerang before catching a taxi.
Police from Cohuna, a town situated 274 km north of Melbourne, on the Murray Valley Highway, in northern Victoria, arrested the man at about 7.45 a.m. while he was in the cab going home.
He was interviewed by police and is expected to be charged on summons with theft and driving offences.
