NEW DELHI - A 25-year-old drug peddler was arrested with about 1 kg of smack worth around Rs.1 crore (over $220,000) in the international market, police said Monday.

Mehraj, who hails from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was held from Nigam Bodh Ghat in north Delhi Sunday when he came to supply the consignment, a senior police officer said.

During interrogation, Mehraj told the police that he joined the gang of a drug supplier named Shibu three years ago in Bareilly.

“He was assigned the job of a carrier, but later he won Shibu’s confidence and started supplying smack in Delhi. About six months ago, Mehraj shifted his base to Loni, near the capital,” the police officer said.
