Four of family commit suicide in Uttar Pradesh

SITAPUR - A couple and their two teenaged daughters allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison here, police said Saturday.

Vijay Singh, 45, who owned a small grocery shop, consumed poison late Friday, along with his wife Madhu and two teenaged daughters - Babita and Anita - inside his home in Azadnagar locality.

“While investigations are on to ascertain why the four committed suicide, we have come to know that Vijay and his wife were in depression for the last one year as their other daughter Sarita was not happy with her in-laws,” police inspector R.P. Shahi told reporters in Sitapur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

According to police, Sarita married a youth in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district around a year back. A few months after the marriage, Sarita had started complaining about her in-laws and had asked her parents to bring her back to their home.
