KOLKATA - Kolkata Police Saturday said their forces and the administration have started conducting raids at several hooch and illegal liquor shops in the city and arrested people for unruly behaviour towards women.

The raids come following the murder of Rajib Das, a 16-year-old boy who was beaten up by three men Feb 14 while trying to protect his elder sister when they began misbehaving with her. Das died in a hospital next day.

One of the accused has been arrested while the other two are still untraced and on the run.

“In a one-day drive Friday, Kolkata Police picked up 100 people who were found harassing women,” said a senior police officer Saturday.

All the 100, who were picked up from several places of south and central Kolkata, were slapped with charges and all of them were granted bail in the court, he added.

In North 24-Parganas, raids were being conducted in places like Nimta, Ghola, New Barrackpore, Kharda, Belgharia, Dum Dum and Airport, according to North 24-Parganas Police Superintendent Rahul Srivastav.
