LUCKNOW - The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday granted bail to Samajwadi Party MP Shailendra Singh, booked and jailed in December 2010 on charges of attempt to murder a candidate in a local body election in Uttar Pradesh.

He was arrested along with eight others, including Independent legislator Raja Bhaiya. Except Raja Bhaiya, all other arrested people have been granted bail now.

The Mayawati government invoked the stringent Gangster Act against Raja Bhaiya.

The action was initiated in the course of investigation into an alleged attack on Manoj Kumar Shukla, a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate for the post of chief of local block development committee.
