Four robbers held

NEW DELHI - An autorickshaw driver who robbed passengers travelling alone in his vehicle in night was arrested in east Delhi and three other robbers were held in central Delhi, police said Friday.

Mujahir was apprehended Thursday from Geeta Colony on a complaint filed by Durga Rao, an army personnel posted at Patiala in Punjab. Rao was stabbed by the autorickshaw driver and his two accomplices during a robbery bid Jan 1 night.

Rao was going to Andhra Pradesh via Delhi when the incident took place.

“Rao hired an autorickshaw from Kashmere Gate for New Delhi Railway Station and instead of taking him to the station, the driver took a detour towards Geeta Colony where one of the accused’s aide posing as a passenger shared the vehicle with Rao,” said a senior police officer.

“The accused’s aide tried to strangle Rao with a rope. As he resisted, they stabbed him and fled with his belongings, said the officer. Azad and Samed are still untraced.

In another case, police arrested three robbers from Daryaganj area in central Delhi Thursday.

Suab Malik, 23, Shahzad Danish, 22, and Shahzad Atif, 21, told police that they commited robberies between 10 p.m.-1 a.m. They generally targeted pedestrians and people riding bikes, said a police officer.
