Barber held for extortion

NEW DELHI - A 43-year-old barber was arrested along with his associate in north Delhi for trying to extort Rs.2 lakh from an exporter, police said Sunday.

Rahisuddin and his associate Nadeem, 22, were apprehended from Jahangirpuri area on Saturday.

“They were into gambling and drinking. They wanted to earn easy money so they tried to extort money from an exporter dealing in agro products,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Meenu Chowdhury.

The exporter approached the police on Saturday with the complaint.

The accused asked the exporter to bring the money near Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital around 2 p.m. Saturday. A trap was laid and the two men were arrested.

Rahisuddin is a school dropout while Nadeem is unemployed.
