Doctor suspended for sexually harassing intern

ROHTAK - A senior doctor of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here has been suspended following allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by an intern, an official said Sunday.

According to the PGIMS official, the doctor was identified as Mahavir Garivan, a professor in the department of surgery.

“An MBBS intern registered a written complaint against Garivan Friday, alleging he had misbehaved with her, tried to embrace her and made lewd remarks, said the official.

“The complainant, who is a resident of Rohtak, is doing her MBBS from a college outside Haryana. She was doing internship here. We had held an emergency meeting on Saturday night and issued the suspension orders this morning,” he added.

R.K.Kadwasra, head of department of surgery at PGIMS, also told media persons that Garivan had been suspensed.
