NEW DELHI - A woman and her paramour were arrested in south Delhi for allegedly killing her brother for money, police said Sunday. The woman’s father too was arrested for concealing the crime.

Rekha, 27, and her father Sher Singh, 52, are residents of Pushp Vihar area of south Delhi while her lover Anil, 26, hailed from Faridabad, Haryana.

The victim, Sanjit, had recently sold some land and was also expecting an additional Rs.7.5 lakh from the sale of his share of the family’s ancestral land, a police officer said.

Rekha conspired with Anil to kill her drunkard brother to get his money. Anil arrived at her home Jan 13 and consumed alcohol with Sanjit.

“When Sanjit dozed off, Anil and Rekha strangulated him with a chunni,” a police officer said.

The duo took the body to a crematorium in Ambedkar Nagar the next day. The person in charge there found injury marks on the body and informed the police.

“We seized the body and the post mortem confirmed that the victim had died due to strangulation. A case of murder was registered Jan 27,” the police officer added.

Rekha had promised Anil Rs.2 lakh if the murder was conducted smoothly, while the money in Sanjit’s bank account was transferred to his father.

The trio were arrested Saturday.
