Mother-daughter duo held for drug trafficking

NEW DELHI - A woman and her daughter from Mumbai were arrested here with 22 kg of drugs, police said Tuesday.

Rasida Begum, 45, and her daughter Naznin, 20, were arrested by the crime branch as they were headed to Mumbai to deliver a consignment.

“We had received information Monday that these women would be coming at Nand Nagri bus stand to board a bus for Mori Gate bus terminal. A trap was laid and they were arrested,” a police official said.

“Twenty-two kg of charas was concealed in two bags between piles of clothes. The consignment was to be taken to Mumbai by bus via Udaipur and Ahmedabad. The charas recovered is of high quality and is also called ‘malana cream’,” he added.

During interrogation, Begum disclosed that she is a divorcee and her former husband Chand Qureshi is also a drug trafficker in Mumbai. After her separation, she along with her daughter took to the illegal activity in order to earn their livelihood.
