NEW DELHI - Family dispute reportedly led to a 22-year-old youth committing suicide by hanging here Friday afternoon, police said.
Ashish, a driver, was found hanging in his house in Seemapuri area of north-east Delhi.
“He was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house this (Friday) afternoon by one of his family members at around 3 p.m. He was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where he was declared brought dead,” a police officer said.
The officer said that no suicide note was recovered from his possession.
“The neighbours said the youth was depressed due to a dispute in his family. Today (Friday), when his family members engaged in a heated argument, he somehow managed to settle the issue.
“After settling the matter, he went to his room and did not come out for two hours. When one of his family members knocked at the door and got no response, he raised an alarm. He broke down the door of the room and found Ashish’s body hanging from the ceiling fan,” the officer said.
According to the officer, the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident.
“We are yet to confirm whether it was a suicide or there is any foul play,” added the officer.
