Gang of women burglars from Rajasthan busted

NEW DELHI - A gang of woman burglars from Rajasthan, targeting electronics appliances’ shops in north Delhi, has been busted, police said Friday.

Raj Kumari, Kanhiya and Amit were arrested from Model Town area of north Delhi and eight mobile phones and five digital cameras recovered from them, a police officer said.

“The gang, on the intervening night of Aug 20 and 21, 2010 targeted an electronics shop in Model Town area and stole 103 cameras and seven MP3 music players. They stole another 10 cameras, 12 mobile phones and Rs.19,000 cash Jan 10 from another electronics store in the same area,” a police official said.

According to police, they received information that a group of women from Beawar in Rajasthan was involved in these cases and the three were arrested. On questioning, the three revealed that five other women - Parsi, Pooja, Sangeeta, Kali and Gayatri and their husbands - were also involved in the robberies.

“All the women and their children used to do a recce of the area to be targeted during the day. Once a shop had been selected, they would strike early in the morning. These women were actively helped by their husbands in disposing off the stolen property,” added the official.

Meanwhile, police are searching for the other five accused and their husbands.
