LONDON - A 6ft 4inch-tall burglar in Britain got more than he bargained for when he was battered with a walking stick by the homeowner - an 84-year-old woman.

Doris Thiele, 84, repeatedly hit Leon Ingram round the head as her daughter Helen, 59, held him in a headlock, The Sun reported.

Ingram, 34, was so terrified that he smashed his way through the conservatory doors with his head to get away.

The burglar left a trail of blood to a nearby flat from where he was arrested.

“I hope this sends a strong message to other burglars.

“If someone else comes they’ll get more of the same,” Doris, of New Milton, Hants, was quoted as saying.
