Earthquake In India: Origin In Pakistan

DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Pakistan was rocked by a strong earthquake today morning and it created panic among the residents who ran for safety. The quake was very powerful and it was felt in the Northwestern states of India and also in the Indian capital. The tremors of the quake reached even the Gulf region as reports have come in. In Richter scale the intensity of the quake was measured as 7.2 which means it was indeed very powerful. The area that was hit the most by the calamity was Baluchistan province adjacent to the border of Iran and Afghanistan. It took place in the wee hours of the morning. The residents were shaken and ran out of their homes. The Indian Meteorological Department said that its epicenter was at southwest Pakistan.

The earthquake was felt in several cities in India including Ganganagar, Jaipur, Delhi and even in Haryana. In India no one died owing to the calamity. The residents of Delhi who woke up after feeling the tremors rushed out o homes. In areas like Sarojini Nagar and Lakshmi Nagar the residents panicked. The IMD said that the quake hit 74 km below the surface level. It was possibly caused by plate movements. An official from IMD said on the quake “Its a plate boundary region and plate activities were the reason behind the quake”.

The earthquake in Pakistan whose effects were also felt in India comes at a time when the flood hit country is trying to cope with rising menace of terrorism. Pakistan suffered heavily earlier in another quake that hit the country in 2005.
