AHMEDABAD - The CBI Tuesday suffered a setback of sorts in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case when Narendra Amin, a suspended policeman and an accused who wanted to turn approver in the case, withdrew his application in a court.

Amin moved a five-page application in a local court here with a prayer to be at the liberty to file the same before the sessions court at the relevant time. The plea was accepted by the court.

Amin referred to various issues like delay in the execution of his approver application, the threat to his life following which he was shifted to Vadodara Jail from Sabarmati Central Jail, his implication in the case and the conspiracy to keep him inside the jail and get him killed there.

He contended that he has been implicated in the case by the investigating agencies.

Amin contended that looking at the circumstances after he moved the application to turn approver in the case, he has decided not to press the application before the court.

His lawyer Jagdish Ramani said that accepting his plea Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.Y. Dave disposed it.

Amin moved the application seeking court’s permission to turn approver in the case and pardon for himself July 26 last year. Since then, there was no major development on the application.

Sheikh was gunned down Nov 26, 2005, and his wife, missing without a trace since then, is believed to have died under mysterious circumstances a few days later.
