Sankranti Marred By Accidents

JAMSHEDPUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The citizens in various parts of India are yet to come out of the Sankranti celebration mood but the festive occasion did not pass without its shares of mishaps. A number of road accidents took place on the auspicious day in various parts of the country resulting in casualty and injury. In a mishap that took place near Shyamsunderpur police station region in Ghatshila sub-division, six people lost their lives. The accident took place on the NH33 in early morning on the day of Sankranti. Another person was seriously injured in the accident. He was taken for treatment to the Ghatshila Sadar Hospital and the dead bodies were sent there for carrying out a postmortem.
After initial investigation, it became apparent that a Tata Sumo vehicle carrying seven people was coming from Cuttack and it clashed with a truck coming from the opposite end. The cops said that the victims went to Cuttack for treatment and they were on their way back. After the gruesome accident, the Adityapur town wore a look of gloom. In another accident that took place on Sankranti, 4 people were killed and two others were injured in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.
The mishap took place on the day of Sankranti at 5.30 am, said the cops. The accident happened when a truck loaded with marble sheets and having a number of agricultural laborers belonging to West Godavari district lost control and overturned near Komarthi village. The driver was blamed for the accident. Those who received injury were taken to a local hospital. They were coming back to their homes for Sankranti, the cops revealed.
