BHOPAL - Two days after a farmer committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh Sehore’s district due to his mounting debt, his family Tuesday alleged that the district administration was forcing them to term him “insane”.

“The collector and the superintendent of police are forcing us to say that my father was insane. They have also taken all the documents of loans from us,” said Dhanmendra Mewad, son of Shiv Prasad who killed himself Sunday.

Shiv Prasad’s widow Komal Bai also alleged the same.

According to the family members, Shiv Prasad had a loan of Rs.7 lakh as he had taken a tractor from the Bank of Maharastra.

However, Superintendent of Police K.D. Prasar termed the charges as rubbish.

Some time back, Damoh Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) S.K. Srivastava had termed a farmer, Nandram, insane when he had committed suicide.

On Tuesday, thousands of farmers demonstrated before the office of Damoh collector S.P.S. Saluja and demanded compensation for their damaged crops.
