PATNA - The spate of kidnappings continued unabated in Bihar as a doctor has been abducted in Sitamarhi district by an unidentified group.

Police said Tuesday Yogendra Prasad, posted at primary health centre in Sonbarsa in Sitamarhi district, about 200 km from here, was abducted from Manhjaul village late Monday night.

“Prasad was abducted by a group of five unidentified people, who posed as relatives of a critical patient. They forcibly took away the victim from his house,” a police official said.

Police have begun investigation into the case and raided some places to trace the abducted doctor. They suspect he was abducted for ransom but the family has not yet received any ransom call, the official said.

During the last one and half month, more than two dozen cases of kidnapping have been reported from across the state.

The fresh string of abductions is giving sleepless nights to parents, teachers and school authorities as several abducted schoolboys were killed during the last four years.

Additional Director General of Police P.K. Thakur admitted that the police are worried over the sudden spurt in cases of kidnapping.
