BATHINDA - In yet another case of honour killing, a woman and her lover were killed by her brother and sister-in-law in this Punjab town, police said Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Anju and Tony, both in their early twenties.

“Anju and Tony had eloped from their homes around 10 months back as their parents were against their relations. They had returned yesterday evening (Saturday) to Anju’s house here,” a police official said.

“Anju’s brother, in connivance with his wife, killed the couple with an axe, while they were sleeping. Later they threw the bodies on the railway track. We have collected blood-stained clothes and bed-sheet from Anju’s house. The accused are absconding.

However police sources said that one relative of Anju was arrested in this case.

During the last few months, many cases of honour killings, involving murders of several youths, have rocked various parts of Punjab and neighbouring Haryana.
