NEW DELHI - A woman and three youths from the northeast were assaulted by a property owner in south Delhi Friday night, police said Saturday. The accused has been arrested.
The four victims, hailing from Manipur, were assaulted around 9.30 p.m. in Munirka village. Three of the victims, including the 24-year-old woman, lived as tenants in accused Dinesh’s property in the village.
One of the youths was a visitor who had come to meet the three tenants of Dinesh.
Requesting that the victims not be named, Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of North East Support Centre and Helpline, said they were temporarily residing in Munirka.
The victims John, 25, Richard, 23, Calvin, 24, and Jenny (all names changed) were assaulted by the landlord and his men last night. John and Calvin are working in private companies in Delhi, said Chandra.
Dinesh had an argument with the youth who had come to meet his tenants and started beating him up. His tenants tried to intervene but were also assaulted by Dinesh, police said.
The victims alleged that it was only after they called the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Delhi (KSOD) general secretary T. Douminlian, that a formal complaint at the Vasant Vihar police station was registered at 1.30 a.m. Saturday and the accused apprehended.
