NEW DELHI - A 32-year-old woman here tried to scare her alcoholic husband after a fight by pouring kerosene on herself and lighting a match, but ended up with critical burn injuries Saturday morning, police said. Her husband, too, was injured while trying to save her and both are now hospitalised.

The incident happened in Anand Parbat in central Delhi Saturday morning, when the couple were at home along with their two kids.

“Asha poured kerosene on herself after an argument with her husband Ugrasen over his drinking. Just to scare her husband, she poured kerosene and lighted a match but she was engulfed in a blaze. Ugrasen tried to save her but he too suffered burn injuries in the process,” a senior police officer said.

She is admitted to hospital with 95 percent burns while her husband has 20 percent burns, he said.

“Asha suffered severe burns and is very critical while Ugrasen is out of danger,” the police officer added.

The two kids are in her brother Brij Mohan’s custody, who lives nearby.

The couple were married for last 11 years. Ugrasen had set up a hosiery unit at his home and used to undertake job-work.

Police are investigating.
