NEW DELHI - A gang of four shoplifting housewives was busted thanks to the CCTV camera in a south Delhi store, police said Saturday.
“The group of women, arrested Friday, first identified their targets, then decided what was to be lifted and moved in a very planned way, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast region) O.P. Mishra told IANS.
“The women engaged the shopkeepers in bargaining and other means of conversations and then lifted the items during this time, added Mishra.
According to the police, two of the four women were wives of east Delhi-based traders.
The women are aged between 35 and 40 years and belong to the trans-Yamuna region in east Delhi.
He said the gang was led by Surinder Kaur, who was involved in six similar crimes earlier.
“The owner of the store in Kalkaji realised that artificial jewellery worth Rs.15,000 was missing, after which he went through the CCTV recordings where the women were found committing the robbery, Mishra said.
“They have been sent to judicial custody and we are investigating the matter, he said.
