RANCHI - The Jharkhand government has denied permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe a rural electrification scandal, a CBI source said Wednesday.

The scam, involving Rs.400 crore of a central government funded rural electrification scheme, reportedly took place in 2006-08 when Madhu Koda was the chief minister.

“We had requested the Jharkhand government to hand over the scam to us. The state government denied us permission saying the state vigilance was investigating it,” the source told IANS.

It is alleged that companies got contracts for rural electrification at rates more than the prevailing market prices allegedly under pressure from Koda and his associates.
