One killed in Agra as ex-captain opens fire

AGRA - One person was killed and two others injured when a retired army captain Monday morning opened fire on his neighbour’s family after losing a recent panchayat poll in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, police said.

The incident took place in village Ujrai.

Police said Bijendra Singh who lost gram pradhan’s election by 12 votes was angry with his neighbour Ram Gopal Sharma’s family, blaming them family for his defeat.

Villagers told police that Bijendra Singh, along with a couple of his friends, went to Sharma’s house Monday morning and opened fire.

One bullet hit Sharma’s son Suresh, 45, who died on the spot. Ashok and Neeraj received bullet injuries and were later transferred to hospital by police.

Soon after the incident, villagers barged into Bijendra Singh’s house and thrashed him till police arrived on the scene. He was admitted to hospital.
