PILIBHIT - Infuriated over a family’s refusal of the marriage proposal of his daughter, a man in this Uttar Pradesh district Monday shot dead parents of the boy, police said.

The incident took place in Tulsipur village, where the girl’s father Chinda Singh shot at the boy, his parents and two sisters. While the parents died on the spot, the boy and his two sisters survived the attack and were admitted to a hospital.

“Investigations indicate Chinda Singh and some of his relatives were involved in the attack on the boy and his family. It appears he (Singh) was angry after the marriage proposal was called off by the boy’s family a few days ago and therefore carried out the attack in a fit of rage,” Police Inspector Hariram Nagar told reporters in the town, some 250 km from Lucknow.

“We have detained three members of the girl’s family in connection with the incident, but the main accused Chinda Singh is absconding. Efforts are on to nab him,” he added.
