AMRITSAR - Punjab Police Sunday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of car thieves with the arrest of three men, including a police official.
According to police, the accused were identified as Gurinderpal Singh alias Pinka, an assistant sub-inspector and resident of Patiala town, Navdeep Singh alias Bablu, an Amritsar resident, and Anil Gulia, a resident of Sonipat town in Haryana. Police have also recovered two pistols from their possession.
Working on a tip-off, we laid a trap and arrested the three accused yesterday (Saturday) evening. They used to steal luxury cars from different parts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana and were selling them here to gullible customers, Amritsar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said.
So far, we have recovered one Honda city, one i20 and one Bolero jeep from their possession. We are hopeful of making more recovery of vehicles in the coming days, he said.
A police official said Gurinderpal got a job in the state police under sports quota and was on leave for the last few days. Gulia, a dreaded criminal, is wanted in many cases in Delhi and Haryana, the official added.
