Man held with heroin worth Rs.1 crore in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW - A drug peddler was arrested with heroin worth around Rs.1 crore in Chanduali district in Uttar Pradesh, the police said Saturday.

Azad, aged about 25, was nabbed late Friday in Sayedraza area, in Chanduali district following a joint operation by the district police and the special operation group.

He worked for an inter-state drug peddlers gang, the police added.

“The man used to supply drugs in various states of the country including Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh,” police inspector Ram Krishna told reporters in Chandauli, some 350 km from Lucknow.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused is also linked to a Nepal-based drug racket,” he added.

Azad, who has been booked under multiple sections of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, hails from Kaimur in Bihar.
