NEW DELHI - No fatal accident was reported from across Delhi Wednesday, a senior traffic police official said Thursday.

“It is one of the red letter days when the city did not have any fatal accidents. This is rare as average number of fatal accidents in the city are five. It was heartening that we did not have accident yesterday (Wednesday),” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg.

With the past couple of days seeing major accidents due to the heavy fog, Wednesday’s record comes as a relief to police.

“Last few days have been foggy and cold. We circulated some guidelines for handling fog. Maybe people benefited from it. It’s sad for the city given the number of cases of fatal accidents we have on a day-to-day basis,” he added.

Garg said that motorists should be careful about pedestrians when they are crossing roads, even if they are irresponsible.

“Let driving responsibly become a habit. I am aware some people do not follow safety as objective, particularly youngsters, but seniors in the family and society should guide them ensuring that they remain responsible and drive safely,” he further added.
