NEW DELHI - The Gujarat government Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it will not proceed with the trial in Tulsi Ram Prajapati shootout case. Prajapati was the prime witness in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing.

The state government gave the undertaking before the apex court bench of Justice Aftab Alam after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the court that the Gujarat government by rushing with the case was trying to complicate the proceedings.

The court told the Gujarat government’s Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the state government should give an undertaking or it would issue directions.

Thereafter, Mehta sought instructions from the state on the matter, and assured the court the trial in the Prajapati shootout case would not be conducted.
