13 dead in Karnataka accident

BANGALORE - At least 13 people died Tuesday when a vehicle with around 35 people fell into a tank near Mysore city of Karnataka, state Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas said here.

Ten bodies have been recovered from the Dalavayikere tank in Mandakalli village on the outskirts of Mysore, about 130 km from here, and rescue efforts were on, he told reporters here. The toll could go up, he said.

Ramdas is a legislator from Mysore and is also the district’s minister in-charge.

The vehicle was coming to Mysore from nearby temple town of Nanjangud when the accident occurred around 5 p.m.

Five people swam ashore and five were rescued and were admitted to a government hospital in Mysore.
