NEW DELHI - A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his father to inherit his wealth, police said Wednesday. Four of his accomplices were also arrested.

Nikesh Gupta, 29, Lalit Yadav, 22, Lal Bahadur, 40, Gaurav Kumar, 23, and Mohammad Adil, 23, were accused of murdering businessman Jai Bhagwan Gupta, Nikesh’s father, in 2008.

As Jai Bhagwan had an established spice business in Khari Baoli and had a habit of splurging, Nikesh felt that he would squander all the wealth. So, he conspired with Lalit Yadav to eliminate his father, a police official said.

Yadav, in turn, hired three contract killers for a sum of Rs.10 lakh who murdered Jai Bhagwan when he went for his morning walk.

The accused would assemble at a pan shop often, whose owner Lal Bahadur was also involved in the murder case, the official added.

Meanwhile, one of the contract killers, Rakesh, was killed in 2009 in a gang war in Haryana.
