Corruption charge filed against embezzling official

CHANDIGARH - A local court here Friday framed charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy against Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) former zonal director Saji Mohan, who allegedly embezzled Rs.13.81 lakh.
Additional district and sessions judge Gurbir Singh framed the charges against Mohan under various sections of Indian Penal Code.
The court would now hear this case continuously from April 6 to 9.
Mohan and his colleagues were booked by Chandigarh police’s Economic Offence Wing Jan 30, 2009, for embezzling Rs.13.81 lakh during his tenure as zonal director.
In 2010, additional district and sessions judge Lalit Batra had also framed charges against Mohan and others under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for pilfering the contraband, seized from various places in Punjab and Jammu, during his tenure.
Mohan was arrested in Mumbai with 12 kg heroin in January 2010 and at present he was lodged in a Maharashtra jail. However, he has been brought here on production warrants.
