KOLKATA - Maoist rebels killed a man in West Bengals West Midnapore district for allegedly being a police spy, police said Sunday.

A bullet-ridden body was recovered Sunday near Sankrail in Jhargram sub-division. The body has been sent for autopsy. We are yet to identify the victim, said West Midnapores Additional Police Superintendent Mukesh Kumar.

Maoist posters claiming responsibility for the crime were recovered from the spot. The posters said the victim was a corrupt Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) worker and was killed for being a police informer, Kumar told IANS over phone.

The outlawed Maoists are active in three western districts of the state - West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
