HYDERABAD - A woman employee of Infosys Technologies Friday committed suicide by jumping off the car park building in the company’s Hyderabad development centre at Gachibowli. The reason for her taking the fatal plunge was not known, police said.
R. Sahiti, 23, died on the spot while a worker in the parking was injured as she fell on him, police said. Sahiti was working as systems engineer.
According to Madhapur police inspector M.Ravichandran Reddy, the incident occurred just a few minutes before lunch hour.
The reason for the woman’s suicide was not clear as she did not leave behind any suicide note. Police said they were conducting investigations to find out why she took the fatal plunge.
Sahiti, a resident of L B Nagar in Hyderabad and daughter of railway employee Muralidhar Rao, joined Infosys in 2009.
The incident shocked her colleagues and the firm. Infosys management said it was saddened by the incident.
“It appears that the employee jumped off the multi-level car park. Her fall injured a contractual worker below, who is currently in hospital under examination,” said a statement released by the company.
It said it would offer full cooperation and support to police in their investigation and promised all necessary support to Sahiti’s family.
