CHANDIGARH - An eight-year-old schoolboy kidnapped from Ambala in Haryana Thursday was rescued after a gunfight with his abductors here, police said Friday.
“The school bus had dropped Vansh near his house in Defence Colony (in Ambala) and his grandmother was waiting for him on the other side of the road. Eyewitnesses told us that while Vansh was crossing the road, a turbaned man forcibly bundled him into a car,” Shashank Anand, Ambala superintendent of police, told IANS.
Following a tip-off, we intercepted the car near Panchkula. The four abductors started firing at us. After a 10-minute encounter (gun battle), the kidnappers left the child and ran away.”
One of the kidnappers was injured in the gunfight and was arrested, he said.
The getaway car was found abandoned near Ambala, the official said. Ambala is 35 km from Chandigarh.
