Four kids of family buried alive in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD - Four children were buried alive and four other members of their family were injured when the house they were sleeping in collapsed during an operation to clean a drain for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s visit here, police said Wednesday.

Earlier reports said five children were buried alive.

“In view of the chief minister’s visit to Ghaziabad, a cleansing operation by the municipal corporation was being carried out. At about 12.30 a.m. today (Wednesday), when a JCB machine was cleaning the drain in the locality, the drain wall caved in, and a building that was built by putting a slab over it collapsed,” a police officer said.

The accident took place in Islam Nagar locality shortly after midnight, he said.

“A family of eight that was sleeping in the house was buried under the debris,” he added.

Locals informed the police about the incident. Four people were rescued alive but four children died under the debris.

The injured were rushed to a government hospital where their condition was told to be stable.

Those killed were identified as Sarik, 5, Sania, 7, Sakeena, 11, and Salman, 14.

Mayawati is expected in Ghaziabad on Feb 20.
