NAGPUR - Exactly a week after the additional collector of Nashik district was burnt alive by the oil mafia, a team of 10 policemen were Tuesday attacked by a kerosene seller and his men here, police said.

“The incident happened in Rajurwadi village of Umred tehsil of the district when a team of policemen went to investigate reports that a consignment of kerosene has been brought to the village illegally,” a police officer said.

“On reaching the area, a few men pelted stones on the two police jeeps, injuring six policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Paladurkar and Inspector Madhukar Gitey,” the police officer added.

The injured policemen have been admitted to a hospital in Umred.

Yashwant Sonawane, 44, was set on fire by the oil mafia near Manmad in Nashik district last week Tuesday when he tried to take photographs of kerosene being stolen from an oil tanker.
