Warsaw, Jan 31 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Polish first lady Anna Komorowska, wife of President Bronislaw Komorowski, is planning to go to the site of the Polish presidential plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, on the first anniversary of the incident.
The Tu-154 aircraft crashed April 10 last year when it attempted to land in thick fog, killing all 96 people on board, including then president Lech Kaczynski, his wife and other top state officials.
The families of the victims are planning to visit the Russian city to commemorate the victims of the accident.
Komorowska said her decision to go to Smolensk will depend on the opinion of the victims’ families.
“If the families want this, we will go together to Smolensk,” Polish media quoted her as saying.
Her husband, Bronislaw Komorowski, who became the president of Poland after the death of Kaczynski, is likely to remain in Warsaw.
Presidential advisor Tomasz Nalecz said earlier the anniversary has a “personal character” for the families and was a sensitive and painful issue for the country.
