GHAZIABAD - Surendra Koli, convicted in the 2005-06 Nithari serial killings in Uttar Pradesh, had a narrow escape Tuesday when a bus carrying him and other prisoners rammed into another bus here, police said. No one was injured in the accident.

The bus, carrying Dasna jail prisoners to Ghaziabad civil court, rammed into an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus when it took a sharp turn on National Highway-24 from the branch road at Dasna. The accident occurred at about 10.45 a.m.

We were taking Koli to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) court in the cases relating to the murders of two girls Max and Harsh,” Inspector N.P. Singh said, adding that the driver of the police bus will be questioned to find out more about the accident.

The Nithari serial killings refer to the 19 cases of abduction, rape and murder of four women and 15 children, mostly girls in Noida.

Surendra Koli, a domestic help, has been convicted in four of the 16 cases filed by the CBI.

Maninder Singh Pandher, Koli’s employer and owner of the house where the crimes are alleged to have been committed, is a co-accused in only six cases.

Millions across the country and abroad were horrified when Noida police Dec 29, 2006 began uncovering the remains of children and young women from a drain next to Pandher’s D-5 bungalow in Noida’s Sector 31. Koli and Pandher were arrested thereafter.
